T he first Wentzville Rod Run of the season was held on Friday, June 3rd.The history of the Wentz- ville’s Rod Runs goes back to the early 1980s, when the Mid Amer- ica Raceway (MAR) racetrack, northwest of Wentzville off of North Point Prairie Road, hosted a nostalgia drag weekend. The participants would come into Wentzville on Friday nights to cruise the streets. In the late 90’s the Rod Runs became an organ- ized event, sponsored by Harris Automotive and Tire and the City of Wentzville, and proceeds benefit the S.M.A.R.T program. For a $10 donation, auto enthusi- asts can cruise down West Pearce Boulevard, where admir- ing crowds gather with their lawn chairs and coolers.
The weather was out- standing and it appeared to be one of the largest of these events. The event is like a mov- ing car show with some really “interesting” vehicles in atten- dance. With so many entrees, it took over an hour to tour the loop. It was an opportunity for our members to distribute our car show flyers and talk to some of the participants about our club and our car show.
